A Piste of Winter: Best Christmas Ski Resorts

There’s nothing more magical than Christmas. It is, after all, the most wonderful time of the year.

While presents under the tree, decorated living rooms and continuous Christmas music are all key to the magic, there’s nothing quite like the Alps during the festive season.

Snowy mountain peaks and beautiful starry nights – what more could you ask for? Not to mention the actual skiing itself.

So, without further ado, here are our favourite ski resorts to visit during Christmas:

Val d’Isere

The famous Val d’Isere is a no brainer when it comes to great Christmas ski resorts.

The resort’s incredible ski area and extraordinary Alpine views make it the perfect setting for the festive season.

Whether it’s the Christmas parades running through the old town, the constant carolling or the copious hot chocolate, Val d’Isere provides the perfect Christmas experience.

Meribel

A trip to Meribel during your Christmas break is one to remember for many Christmases to come.

You may even end up coming back each year!

A grand Christmas tree stands tall at the centre of town, with carollers and parades building the already festive atmosphere - not to mention the free hot chocolate and vin chaud!

The biggest pull to Meribel this Christmas, however, is the luxury chalets on offer. Each chalet is fully equipped with hot tubs, complimentary bars and open log fireplaces.

Set against an incredible backdrop of snow tipped mountains, a relaxing night in the hot tub or in front of the fire is the perfect way to spend your Christmas.

Kitzbühel

The first thing which comes to mind when thinking of Kitzbühel is the wonderful Christmas market.

Running from the end of November up until Christmas Eve, the market offers up a vast array of fir trees, festive food and wine.

There are a number of activities running alongside the Christmas market, which include carol singing, petting zoos and horse riding, to name a few.

If you want a festive break which involves over-indulgence and constant activity, then Kitzbühel is the place to be.

Ischgl

Ischgl is no stranger to Christmas celebrations.

The resort announces its festive season with a Winter Opening Concert, followed by the Ischgl Krampus Run. Both traditions are a huge roar of Christmas pride for the Austrian resort.

Not only will there be festive cheer and other activities in the lead up to Christmas, but also events after Christmas day, extending the fun all the way into the New Year.

Stay after Christmas day and be treated to carolling and an expert ski and snowboarder night show.

Courchevel

Finally, the glamourous resort of Courchevel plays host to its own Father Christmas and his assortment of helpers, who go above and beyond to build the perfect festive atmosphere.

The streets and fir trees of Courchevel town are decorated in the spirit of the season, creating an extraordinary display of colour and lights.

The Christmas Village also offers a range of Christmas food and locally crafted goods to keep you occupied.

What’s more, you can grab yourself a stunning ski chalet (akin to Meribel’s resort) and enjoy the festivities in luxury.

Now that you’re fully immersed in the festive spirit, book yourself a private ski transfer to your resort of choice and have yourself an incredible Christmas ski break.
