Ski mountaineering is now an Olympic discipline

Ski mountaineering – the competitive version of ski touring – has been added to the Winter Youth Olympic Games that will be held in Lausanne (Switzerland) in 2020.
It’s a decision that the International Olympic Committee Executive Board announced earlier this weekend along with other items that resulted in more women, more total athletes and more innovative content for the third edition of the Winter Youth Games. The competition will include individual, sprint and relay races for both men and women.
The IOC has been making major efforts in the last few years towards gender equality and the representation of more disciplines at both the Olympics and the Youth Olympics, which lets us hope for an addition of the sport to the Winter Olympics program at Beijing 2022 or in 2026 (for which the host city still has to be determined).
