The rope team of the centuryTHE COMPAGNIE DES GUIDES DE CHAMONIX IS CELEBRATING ITS 200TH ANNIVERSARY
Do you know who is blowing out its 200th candle and has been scaling Mont Blanc since the day of its birth? Do you know who will be two centuries old this year, earning the respect and admiration of its peers with all its great work for the mountains? Do you know who has an 88 mm waist, is packed with two centuries of expertise and passion, and is celebrating the beautiful story of a rope team?
A SKI INSPIRED BY A ROPE TEAM
The answer is simple and unique, like the company itself: the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix. It is the oldest and largest mountain guide company on the entire planet. A team of over 200 members having taken up the torch from generations of illustrious predecessors since 1821.
For almost 60 years, we have been writing a shared story together, featuring heroic characters, iconic products and exceptional races. Together, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix and Dynastar form a rope team that has been continuously progressing for many years and we wanted to celebrate this with a ski.
THE COMPAGNIE DES GUIDES & DYNASTAR, JOINED BY UNIQUE BONDS
"At Dynastar, earning the trust of the Compagnie is a huge source of pride that boosts motivation and drives innovation!”
It proves the high quality of our skis. It confirms our vision of the mountain. This rope team formed by the Compagnie and Dynastar is joined by an incredibly strong rope. A rope consisting of 4 unalterable strands.
from the LEGEND to the VERTICAL, not forgetting the MYTHIC and the CHAM, the members of the Compagnie have made their way all over Mont Blanc. The knowledge that they base their capacity for action on trust in our products is incredibly motivating for our R&D department. And their feedback helps to drive innovation to develop ultra-reliable and high-performance equipment.
“A good guide is a guide who has good skis!” This quotation doesn’t come from us. These are the words of one of its most emblematic current members: Vivian Bruchez. Because this rope team is first and foremost a human adventure, a story of the women and men at its core. From the first person to ski the Aiguille Blanche de Peuterey, Anselme Baud in 1977, to Pierre Tardivel on Everest with a ski weighing under a kilo.
A shared playground
The Compagnie and Dynastar share the same homeland: the Chamonix Valley. And like children who play together in the same garden, this proximity has forged strong bonds. The great diversity of our playground, the Mont Blanc range, makes our homeland a laboratory and an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
This is perhaps the most important strand, which has made this rope team so enduringly strong over time and through generations: our vision of the mountain. Our focus with the Compagnie is on transmitting and listening, according to shared values:
- Respect. Respect for the mountains. Respect for elders. And respect for traditions. These are fundamental values.
- Demand. With a clear flair for effort and work.
- Passion. Raw and authentic.
- Daring To have the ambition to turn our dreams into objectives.
SIGNATURE DECOR FOR THIS (VERY) LIMITED EDITION
Creating a ski to represent this rope team was a real challenge. Guillaume Raullin, the designer of this limited edition, tells us how he responded to the wish expressed by both by David Ravanel, President of the Compagnie, and Laurent Richard, Director of the Dynastar brand, to mark this exceptional date:
“We started out with an existing ski, the M-VERTICAL 88, part of the range inspired by and designed for the Compagnie's work. The challenge then was to create a signature decor to make it unique. We achieved this by working with an old screen print for a former prototype celebrating Mont Blanc. We adapted it to the mineral and organic universe of the M-LINE range while striving to add a minimalist, elegant and exclusive dimension inspired by the Compagnie. Using an old photo, with a black-and-white contrast creating a historic, almost retro touch, to bring the Mont Blanc range to life posed a real graphic challenge.”
