Deciphering the Rules of the Freeride World Tour: Understanding the Scoring Criteria and Maximizing Performance

The Freeride World Tour (FWT) represents the pinnacle of freeride competitions, attracting the best skiers and snowboarders worldwide. At the heart of this captivating event are sophisticated scoring rules determining athletes' rankings. Explore the nuances of these rules and how athletes can maximize their scores.

1. FWT Scoring Criteria

Unveiling the Secrets

Line - Strategic Choice

The "line" reveals the athlete's strategic choice of the course. Judges evaluate the fluidity, creativity, and difficulty of the chosen line, favoring competitors capable of navigating challenging terrain with style and boldness.

Control - Mastery in Action

"Control" measures the athlete's mastery over their equipment. A smooth and controlled descent is essential for a high score. Falls or loss of control can negatively impact the scoring.

Technique - Excellence in Movement

"Technique" evaluates the quality of movements, turns, and jumps. Competitors are encouraged to demonstrate technical expertise while taking calculated risks, adding an artistic dimension to the performance.

Jumps and Tricks - Creative Elevation

"Jumps and tricks" play a crucial role. Judges assess the height, creativity, and style of jumps, as well as the difficulty of tricks, highlighting the importance of innovation in FWT scoring.

2 - Precise Scoring Scale from 0 to 100

Judges use a scoring scale from 0 to 100; each scoring criterion contributes to the athlete's total score, allowing a percise performance evaluation.

3 - Experienced Subjective Judgment

Despite defined criteria, judgment remains subjective. Judges, as experts in the discipline, bring their personal experience to their evaluations, underscoring the importance of experience in interpreting performances.

4. Rewarded Innovation: A Strategic Advantage

Innovation is rewarded in the FWT. Athletes who push boundaries and introduce new approaches or tricks may benefit from a higher score, emphasizing the importance of originality.
